Tour - Salvation Army

On June 6, 2016, our club took a learning tour to the Salvation Army's Chesapeake Energy Center of Hope.

Our club's connection with the Salvation Army has involved donations from time to time but also ringing bells for the red kettles probably since bell ringing began in Oklahoma City. We were happy to learn at the beginning of our tour that new software keeps information for the last two years' of ringing. In 2014, our site at Byron's, 23rd & Broadway, brought in $5,503.37. In 2015, $6,290.46. (Thanks to Stephen Nichols, our bell ringing chair, and everyone who volunteered.)

Another connection is that our Kiwanis Club did donate some years ago for the Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis District's fundraiser to equip a state-of-the-art canteen for disaster relief services.

Last but not least, Jay Engelbach, one of our highly esteemed past presidents and an active community leader, is on the Salvation Army's board of directors. Engelbach Roberts & Co. was one of the major donors for the Chesapeake Energy Center of Hope's $15 million capital project.

Kenny Kelly, emergency disaster services; Traci Jinkens, director of development, and Maegan Dunn, development marketing manager, hosted our tour.

Congratulations to the excellent job the Salvation Army is doing in the metro area.
